Welcome to the faculty of Science at the catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).

Today, the Faculty boasts of five departments: Mathematics and Actuarial Science, Community Health and Development, Computer and Information Science, and Natural Sciences. The faculty offers over 20 programmes ranging from certificate courses to PhD programmes. It is worth noting that CUEA is the only private university that offers a PhD in Mathematics in Kenya.

The faculty has over 50 members of faculty on full time basis making students have an easy time accessing them and getting the help they need. The faculty has also produced impressive academic publications that contribute towards making CUEA maintain its good rankings as a research and academic Institution including Webometrics.

The Faculty is in collaboration with IBM Research Africa and Huawei to offer state of the art Computer Science training that is globally respected. The IBM Research Africa facility in Kenya is housed at CUEA making it ideal for our students to access expertise that may not be found anywhere else in this part of the world. CUEA is shortly expected to be a Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy which means the university will be certified and authorized by Huawei to deliver official technical and certification training to its students using the Huawei authorized training curriculum and tools. These collaborations ensure that our graduates receive cutting edge training and have an upper hand in the job market.

The Faculty of Science is among the centres of excellence in science training in this region and our promise is to keep ensuring that the graduates remain relevant in the global market.

The Faculty runs the Bachelor of Education program both in the regular and school-focused program, Masters of Education both in regular and Holiday program, Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Advanced Diploma in Teaching in Higher Education (PGTHE), and Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Ph.D.) in four program areas/specializations namely Curriculum Studies and Instruction, Educational Research and Evaluation and Educational Administration and Planning; and Counselling Psychology.

During the 2011/2012 academic year, the Faculty had a total of 824 students enrolled in the UGSE. About 300 students are expected to graduate this October 2015.

1. Four staff members from the Mathematics Department were sponsored by the Faculty for the 5-day Strathmore annual Mathematics Research Workshop in 2012 and 2013.
2. Ian Kaniu of Physics department attended the Fourth African Regional Radiation Protection Association Congress (AFRIRP A04) International workshop held in Rabat, Morocco from 13th-17th September 2014.
3. Carolyne Songa of Physics department attended a workshop in the African School on Space Science: Related Applications and Awareness for Sustainable Development of the region that was held at CST-UR, Kigali- Rwanda from 30th June to 11th July 2014
4. Mutambi Songa presented two papers; Modeling and Predicting of Solar Forcing of Total Column Ozone over Kenya Using Regression and Artificial Neural Networks and Statistical Study of Solar Forcing of Total Column Ozone Variation Over Three Cities in Kenya at the 2017 Joint IAPSO-IAMAS-IAGA Assembly (Session JA4 – Solar Related Variability of the Atmosphere domain) which at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) in Cape Town, South Africa.
5. Dr. Rossa Nyoike attended a Regional Workshop on Widening Informed Stakeholder Engagement for REDD+ (WISE REDD+) that was held in Mombasa, Kenya between 11th and 13th August 2014.
