ZIKOMO: A Word from the Vice Chancellor

By Very Rev. Prof. Elias Omondi Opongo, SJ, Vice Chancellor/Rector

As the semester progresses, I would like to remind our University community of two important values that must continue to shape who we are: accountability and collegiality.

Accountability means taking responsibility for what has been entrusted to us, while collegiality reminds us that we achieve much more when we work together as One University, One Family, One Mission.

To our students, I encourage you to take your academic responsibilities seriously. Attend your classes diligently, participate actively, and make full use of the opportunities that CUEA offers you. Your education requires discipline, consistency, and personal responsibility.

I also encourage you to safeguard your personal integrity and well-being. Avoid substance abuse and other choices that may undermine your studies, relationships, health, and future. The decisions you make today contribute to the person and professional you are becoming.

We also want to hear from you about how we can continue improving the learning experience at CUEA. At the end of the semester, you will have an opportunity to provide constructive feedback on the quality of teaching, modes of delivery, and whether the expected learning outcomes were achieved. I encourage you to participate thoughtfully and honestly. Your feedback is important in helping us strengthen academic excellence across the University.

Our formation at CUEA also goes beyond the classroom. I encourage you to join our Thursday University Eucharistic Celebration, which provides an opportunity for prayer, reflection, and fellowship. Even if you are not Catholic, you are warmly welcome to participate. I also encourage you to connect with the Chaplaincy and become involved in the various spiritual and faith groups available within the University.

To our lecturers and staff, diligent service, professionalism, and commitment are equally important expressions of accountability. Let us carry out our responsibilities faithfully, professionally, and on time. By working together, supporting one another, and taking collective responsibility for our University, we strengthen our ability to achieve our shared goals and fulfil our mission.

As we move forward together, I invite each one of us to ask a simple but important question:

What am I doing to make CUEA better?

Transformation begins with each one of us. Through accountability, collegiality, and a shared commitment to our mission, we can continue building the University community we all desire.

ZIKOMO!
