CUEA Students Secure Second Place at Archdiocesan IC-YCS Flags Day
Students from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) secured second place at the annual Inter-Colleges Young Christian Students (IC-YCS) Flags Day held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Kiambu National Polytechnic. CUEA was represented by a delegation of up to 100 students from all the University's Spiritual Movements. The event, organised by the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi Education Office, brought together Catholic students from universities and colleges across the Archdiocese. CUEA received a trophy and certificate after emerging second in the Archdiocesan IC-YCS competitions. Kabete National Polytechnic emerged overall winner, while Nairobi National Polytechnic finished third among the 16 participating institutions. Faith, Formation and Fellowship The day began with Holy Mass led by the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi Educational Secretary, Rev. Dr. Martin Njihia, who urged students to remain steadfast in their faith while maintaining focus and discipline in their studies. In his homily, Rev. Dr. Njihia highlighted challenges facing young people, including drug and substance abuse, unhealthy relationships, social media influence, gambling and lack of discipline. He encouraged students to apply the YCS motto, “See, Judge and Act,” in their daily lives and academic pursuits. The Mass was followed by inspirational talks and competitions, bringing students from different institutions together for fellowship, learning and fundraising activities in support of the Archdiocesan annual YCS programmes. Beyond the competition, the event provided an opportunity for students to strengthen their faith, build friendships, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and engage in activities that support their spiritual and social development. CUEA's second-place finish reflected the students' teamwork, commitment and active participation, while the event reinforced the University's commitment to holistic student formation and its Catholic identity, integrating faith, learning, character development and service. The students were accompanied to the event by the CUEA YCS Patron.
