Dr. Mary Nyawira Wainaina is the Dean of the Faculty of Science at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics & Actuarial Sciences. She previously served as Head of the Department of Mathematics & Actuarial Science and as Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator. She holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from CUEA, a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management of Development Projects from CUEA, and a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Nairobi. Her specialization is Applied Mathematics, including fluid mechanics, Magnetohydrodynamics, Newtonian fluids and mathematical modelling. Her research focuses on mathematical simulations and modelling of natural and physical phenomena, including disease dynamics. She is a member of KWIMSA (Kenya Women in Mathematical Science Association) and EANWoBAS-Kenya Chapter.

Research interests: Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD); Nanofluid Flow Dynamics; Heat and Mass Transfer; Computational Fluid Mechanics; Statistical Modeling in Epidemiology; Bayesian Model Averaging; Disease Transmission Dynamics; Applied Mathematics in Physics; Dr. Mary Nyawira Wainaina is a distinguished mathematician whose research focuses on the intersection of fluid mechanics, magnetohydrodynamics, and applied mathematics. Her work has significantly advanced the understanding of nanofluid behavior under various magnetic field conditions and has important applications in engineering and industrial processes.; Her research in magnetohydrodynamics has explored the effects of magnetic fields on fluid flow through convergent-divergent channels, with implications for heat exchangers, cooling systems, and other thermal engineering applications. Dr. Wainaina's work on nanofluid flow has contributed to the development of more efficient heat transfer systems.; Beyond fluid mechanics, Dr. Wainaina has made significant contributions to mathematical epidemiology, including modeling HIV/AIDS progression, cholera dynamics, and COVID-19 transmission. Her interdisciplinary approach combines advanced mathematical techniques with practical public health applications, making her research both theoretically rigorous and practically relevant.
