Research interests: Anthony Gitau holds a Master's Degree in Entomology from the University of Nairobi. His research focuses on entomology with a special interest in insects of medical and veterinary importance.; Insects of Medical Importance; Insects of Veterinary Importance; Tungiasis (Jigger Infestation); Natural Treatment Methods; Community Health Education; Housing and Sanitation; Vector Control; Anthony Gitau is a dedicated entomologist whose research addresses a critical public health challenge in Kenya: tungiasis (jigger infestation). His work has focused on understanding the epidemiology, risk factors, and control strategies for this neglected tropical disease that affects vulnerable communities.; His pioneering research on the efficacy of coconut oil as a natural treatment for both acute and chronic tungiasis offers a cost-effective and accessible alternative to conventional treatments. This research has important implications for resource-limited communities where jigger infestation is prevalent.; Through his comprehensive studies in Kandara Sub-County, Anthony has assessed multiple dimensions of tungiasis management, including community knowledge levels, the role of housing conditions, and the contribution of domestic animals to disease transmission. This holistic approach provides valuable insights for developing integrated control strategies.; His publication in the Pan African Medical Journal demonstrates the international recognition of his work, contributing to the broader understanding of neglected tropical diseases in Africa and informing public health interventions.
