The faculty of Arts and Social Sciences prides itself as a pacesetter in academic activities. The faculty has launched an online Journal Kumekucha; a Swahili word for dawn has come. Our staff is engaged in both local and international research. The faculty has in the recent past accelerated program development, particularly at the post-graduate level. The faculty has also established institutional linkages with various institutions of higher learning. The faculty holds an interdisciplinary session once every academic year to allow staff and students to interrogate various academic issues.

The Faculty takes a keen interest in partnerships for building capacity and internationalizing the quality of education offered. The faculty also collaborates with industry to give our students a practical feel of their educational training. Our students work in the industry for a period of three months to enhance the practical aspects of their educational training. The faculty has established institutional linkages and partnerships with Holy Cross College in the USA and St Elizabeth University of Science and Social Work. Other partnerships that are in the process include the Institute of Mass Communication and the Catholic University of France.

The student population at the faculty is 746. At the faculty, students develop knowledge in their area of discipline and acquire skills for rewarding and meaningful careers. Student support services are available at the faculty. The faculty-student office is located on the ground floor of Nsubuga Hall where the faculty-student government consults on various academic matters with other students and staff.

The faculty is committed to community service in and outside the campus. Faculty community service activities are in line with the vision and mission of the University. Apart from material support, the faculty envisage the service-learning model of serving the community. The faculty has identified educational institutions such as Light Academy in Rongai and is collaborating with them in the provision of learning materials and other support services.
