ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

CANONICAL / ECCLESIASTICAL DEGREES
Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology
  • The Faculty accepts laity, religious and seminarians recommended by their ordinaries, superiors or employers.

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with the minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) or the equivalent OR

  • A Principal pass in the A-Levels in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (A-Levels) or GCE A-Level or the equivalent

  •  Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education  with a minimum of 2 principal passes or the  equivalent; AND

  • Proficiency in English and knowledge of one modern language. Language courses are organised for those who need them.

  • Computer Literacy. A course is organised for those who need it; AND

  •  In addition, a candidate must hold a Baccalaureate in Philosophy or a comparable Diploma.

Licentiate in Sacred Theology
  • A holder of a Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology with at least a Magna cum Laude or a comparable academic degree.

  • In exceptional cases, a holder of a Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology with Cum Laude, provided he/she can produce evidence of proven research ability.

  • Basic knowledge of Latin, Biblical Greek and Hebrew.  In addition, a candidate must have sufficient knowledge of at least one modern language besides English.

  • Computer Literacy. A course is organised for those who need it.

  • Applicants without a Baccalaureate but who have completed an undergraduate theology programme  in an ecclesiastical institution, will be admitted subject to a special admission examination.

  • Other applicants with special cases will be admitted subject to a one-year upgrading certificate programme.

Licentiate in Canon Law

In conformity with the Decree of the Congregation for Catholic Education revising the order of studies in the Faculties and Departments of Canon Law, issued on 2nd September 2002, Licentiate in Canon Law will last for six semesters or three years, with effect from the beginning of the academic year 2003/2004. 

Admission requirements

  • Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology of at least Magna   cum Laude or the equivalent.

  • In exceptional cases, a holder of a Baccalaureate in Theology with  Cum Laude  provided he or she can produce evidence of proven research ability.

  • Basic knowledge of Biblical Greek and Hebrew.  In addition, a candidate must have sufficient knowledge of at least one modern language besides English.

  • Good knowledge of Latin. The Decree referred to above requires the study of Latin. Those without Latin background will have the opportunity to take intensive Latin course particularly in their first year.

Doctorate in Sacred Theology
  • Licentiate in Sacred Theology of at least Cum Laude or the equivalent.

  • Confidential letters from two academic referees on the applicant’s competence.

  • An interview with the Departmental Academic Board.

  • Basic knowledge of Latin, Biblical Greek and Hebrew.  In addition, a candidate must have sufficient knowledge of at least one modern language besides English.

  • Computer Literacy: Students are expected to have sufficient knowledge and good aptitude in using computers for their academic works. Those who lack computer literacy shall take the courses offered by the Faculty.

CIVIL PROGRAMMES

Admission requirements

Validated Certificate

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with the minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) or the equivalent OR

  • A Principal pass in the A-Levels in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (A-Levels) or GCE A-Level or the equivalent

  •  Kenya Advanced Certificate of education  with a minimum of 2 principal passes or the  equivalent OR

  • Completion of preparatory year at CUEA (university graduates in appropriate disciplines may be exempted from the preparatory year).

DIPLOMA

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with the minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) or the equivalent OR

  • A Principal pass in the A-Levels in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (A-Levels) or GCE A-Level or the equivalent

  •  Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education  with a minimum of 2 principal passes or the  equivalent OR

  • Completion of preparatory year at CUEA (university graduates in appropriate disciplines may be exempted from the preparatory year).

CIVIL DEGREES

Bachelor of Theology

  • The Faculty accepts laity and religious who are recommended by their religious superiors or employers.
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with the minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) or the equivalent OR

  • A Principal pass in the A-Levels in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (A-Levels) or GCE A-Level or the equivalent

  •  Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education  with a minimum of 2 principal passes or the  equivalent; AND

  • In addition, he/she must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy or a comparable Diploma.
  • Applicants without the latter will undergo a Pre-University Programme at Marist International Centre before admission to the Bachelor's programme.

Master of Theology

  • Bachelor of Theology of at least Upper Second Class Honours or the equivalent.

  • Languages required and the areas of specialisation are the same as for the Licentiate in Theology.

Doctor of Theology (PhD)

  •  Master of Theology of at least Lower Second Class Honours or the equivalent.

  • The other requirements are the same as for the Ecclesiastical Doctorate (STD).
