The 21^st Century stipulates that educational institutions in African countries rethink development strategies. It is becoming vital for educational instructions of all levels to plan and build effective systems.

The Faculty of Education at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa is organizing a three-day interdisciplinary session under the theme Effective Schools for the 21^st Century. It is hoped that this session will attract wide participation from all lecturers, school personnel, educators and researchers to exchange ideas on how to address the challenge of building effective schools for the 21^st Century.

The Scientific Committee of the Faculty of Education Interdisciplinary Sessions would like to inform you that the Deadline for the receipt of Abstracts for this Interdisciplinary Session has been extended to Friday, 19th February 2010.

Subthemes

The Interdisciplinary Session Organizing Committee welcomes high quality papers addressing innovation and knowledge on but not limited to the following subthemes:

Teacher training and internship (teaching practice)
School administration
Student services
Curriculum and instruction
Teaching and learning resources
School and community relations
Co-curriculum activities

Abstract Submission

Lecturers, researchers and other educationalists who wish to participate and /or submit papers for presentation during the interdisciplinary session are requested to use: pgse@cuea.edu or ugse@cuea.edu.Abstracts should not exceed 500 words and should be in the following format: font-Times New Roman, font size-12, double line spacing in APA referencing style. Margins-top, bottom, left and right-one (1) inch each. Soft copies should be saved as word file (Ms Word 2003 format or Rich Text Format).

Abstract will be reviewed and evaluated on the following basis:

Relevance to the Interdisciplinary Theme
Clarity - is the submission well organized and clearly written
Scholarly contribution

Please note:
Only those whose abstracts have been accepted will be contacted and requested to develop the full paper for presentation.

Registration
All those interested in participating and making presentations during the interdisciplinary session should register with Nancy or Gladys at the Department Office in Missio Hall by 1st March 2010.
